Another successful Aitsi’poyiiksi Symposium prepares us for a new season of revitalizing Niitsipoh’ssin
The Aitsi’poyiiksi Committee held another successful Blackfoot Language Symposium on October 14, 15 and 16, 2025 at the Sandman Signature in Lethbridge, AB with nine presentations and approximately 300 attendees daily.
The three-day event gave participants the chance to learn more about the efforts in revitalizing our Blackfoot language at all levels. The sessions included: Chief and Council and Administration Niitsitapi Culture and Language Strategic Plan update, Kainai Board of Education Language Program, Red Crow College Language Initiative, Cardston High School Blackfoot Language class demonstration, a genealogy and family tree presentation, Galt Museum language update, a Blackfoot Historical Account from Makiinima, New words/phrases panel exercise, and Powwow Finale.
Thank you to: all those who attended and travelled from afar, elders, Blackfoot language teachers (past and present), presenters, vendors, cooks, organizers, emcees, Sandman Signature staff, and BTA staff. We also would like to thank all who participated with contributing their knowledge, learning efforts, talents, encouragement, and support.
