The Blood Tribe Administration (BTA) is proud to announce Jeff Heggie as the new Facility Operations Manager for the Blood Tribe Twin Rinks, as of August 2026.

Heggie brings nearly 20 years of recreation and management experience to the Twin Rinks through his previous work with the Parks and Recreation Department in Cardston, along with post-secondary education and ice management training.

Heggie currently holds certificates in Ice Arena Level 1, which covers ice-making, and Ice Arena Level 2, which teaches how to look after a refrigeration plant. He completed these training courses with the Alberta Association of Rec Personnel.

During his time with Cardston’s Parks and Recreation Department, Heggie was in charge of all the day-to-day tasks, from cleaning the ice and building to booking events for a small but busy rink in the community for 6 months of the year, while overseeing ball diamonds, green spaces and irrigation systems during the other portion of the year. In addition, Heggie managed a crew of college students each summer who helped the Town of Cardston with landscaping tasks along with preparing ball diamonds.

In addition to the experience and skills Heggie developed as a Facility Operations Manager, he holds a Business Management Diploma from Lethbridge College (2013), which he has said has already come in handy at the Twin Rinks.

Since starting his position with the Blood Tribe roughly 4 weeks ago, Heggie says he’s felt very welcomed by the community and is super pumped and excited to be working at the new arena, as this has always been a dream job for him. He stated that he has always wanted to run an arena year-round.

Overall, Heggie’s personal vision for the Twin Rinks is to see it used at full capacity and become a gathering hub for the community.

“I want to see it be a place where everyone comes together to enjoy competition, to enjoy recreation, a place where everyone shares a common thread,” says Heggie.

“If we can utilize it in the summertime, where perhaps there is always one sheet of ice, and maybe there is space on the other side where many different events could be held, such as lacrosse or floor hockey or if they needed a space for an indoor powwow, or just utilizing the building as much as possible.”

Jeff Heggie is married, has 3 daughters, and lives in the Town of Cardston.
