News and Updates
CURRENT PROGRAM UPDATES:
Blood Tribe Opioid Response and Blood Tribe Harm Reduction continue to provide a coordinated, community-based response to substance use, overdose, homelessness, and related community wellness concerns.
Current priorities include:
- Community and mobile outreach to individuals experiencing substance use and/or housing instability.
- Naloxone distribution and overdose prevention education.
- Harm reduction education and service navigation.
- Connections to detox, treatment, recovery, housing, and wellness services.
- Grief and loss support for individuals and families affected by overdose.
- Culturally grounded healing and wellness programming.
- Strengthening partnerships between Blood Tribe departments, community organizations, and service providers.
- Identifying gaps within the community continuum of care and developing coordinated responses.
- Spirit of Hope Community House meals program
The overall approach continues to be grounded in prevention, harm reduction, treatment, recovery, cultural healing, and community wellness.

ANNUAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS EVENT August 31, 2026 & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Planning is underway for the Annual Overdose Awareness Event, which will provide an opportunity for the community to come together to remember those who have passed, support families experiencing grief, recognize recovery and resilience, and increase awareness of overdose prevention and available services.
Proposed theme:
Remembering • Honouring • Healing • Hope
Potential components include:
- Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Honour song/drumming.
- Memorial and remembrance component.
- Grief and loss sharing.
- Recovery and wellness stories.
- Naloxone and overdose prevention education.
- Harm reduction and community resource tables.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Planning will include engagement with Blood Tribe departments, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, families, people with lived/living experience, community service providers, health and wellness programs, and other relevant partners.
The event will be designed as a community wellness and remembrance gathering, with emphasis on cultural connection, compassion, reducing stigma, and strengthening pathways to support our community members.

Naloxone Pick-up Sites
Naloxone is a drug that temporarily reverses effects of an opioid poisoning or overdose. Any overdose or poisoning response should always begin with a 911 call for emergency support.

Is a community patrol that specializes in helping the homeless and those suffering from addiction. We provide lunches, snacks, and water during patrols. Additionally, we provide referrals to detox and treatment as well as other resources within the City of Lethbridge and surrounding communities.
