Due to the recent heavy rainfall, Blood Tribe Housing is encouraging all occupants to take steps to reduce moisture and prevent mold growth in their homes.
Mold can develop quickly in damp, cluttered, or poorly ventilated areas. To help protect your home and family’s health, please:
- Remove clutter from basements, utility rooms, storage areas, and around windows.
- Move boxes, furniture, and belongings away from exterior walls to allow for proper airflow.
- Keep clutter and stored items away from furnaces and hot water tanks. These areas require adequate airflow and must remain accessible for maintenance and emergencies.
- Do not cover or block heating vents, cold air returns, or ventilation openings. Proper air circulation helps prevent moisture buildup and mold growth.
- Check for water leaks, damp carpets, wet drywall, or standing water.
- Keep bathrooms and kitchens well ventilated by using exhaust fans when available.
- Open curtains and blinds to allow sunlight and air circulation
- Ensure basement floor drains are clear and accessible.
- Remove any wet items immediately and allow them to dry thoroughly.
- Monitor areas around windows, doors, and foundations for signs of moisture.
- Keep exterior drainage areas clear and ensure downspouts and flip-outs are extended away from the home.
Report any water intrusion, roof leaks, foundation see age, or basement flooding to Blood Tribe Housing immediately.
Taking action now can help prevent mold growth, protect your belongings, improve indoor air quality, and reduce costly repairs.
