Chief Plaited Hair/Aakaayaamihtsinima had an opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister Alty, Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) in Calgary on July 11, 2026.
The Chief was able to address the issue of the Big Claim at this meeting, presenting the Prime Minister with another letter providing background on the Claim and raising concerns with regard to the time it is taking to reach a settlement.
The Chief left the meeting feeling positive that the Big Claim is still on track, and the Prime Minister acknowledged its significance and the need to reach a settlement on the Claim.
Chief Plaited Hair/Aakaayaamihtsinima will be meeting with Minister Alty in Ottawa on July 15, 2026, while attending the AFN Annual Assembly and will reiterate the importance and urgency of reaching a settlement.
