Superintendent Cameron Shade announces re-entry for Blood Reserve schools for 2020/21 school year
Please refer to KBE’s OFFICIAL statement in the attachment or writing below:
Oki Parents/Guardians,
COVID-19 is an extremely fluid situation. The main priority of Kainai Board of Education (KBE) is the safety of our students and staff.
KBE acknowledges the recent announcements from Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw and Education Minister Adriana LaGrange regarding provincial schools’ re-entry plan. I would like to emphasize that KBE is not mandated to follow the recommendations from the province. KBE has developed a re-entry plan that addresses the educational context and needs of KBE students and community.
KBE Re-Entry Hybrid Model will be the re-entry model of choice for our students and community. The re-entry plan will be a combination of students returning to in class learning and at home learning. This model has been developed in consultation with KBE Board of Directors, senior administrators and has involved many hours of planning.
Students will be placed into cohorts A and B:
- Cohort A will attend schools on Monday and Wednesday
- Cohort B will attend schools on Tuesday and Thursday
- There will be no classes on Fridays. However, all school staff will be required to be in schools on Fridays.
KBE also recognizes that parents/guardians may not want to send their children to school for safety reasons. KBE will be providing an “Out of School Learning” opportunity for students. If parents/guardians choose the “Out of School Learning” option, KBE is requiring that parents/guardians fully register their child with KBE to ensure learning materials will be constructed and distributed in a timely manner. The “Out of School Learning” option will be made available to parents/guardians regardless if they have access to internet or not.
KBE will be providing face masks to all students and staff for their safety while they are in school.
Lunches will continually be provided to our students Monday to Thursday.
The Re-Entry Hybrid Model is dynamic and allows KBE to adjust to changing conditions within our schools. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 in our schools and community and follow recommendations from Alberta Health Services and Blood Tribe Department of Health.
To ensure a safe and efficient first day of school we are asking all parents/guardians to please register their child or children by August 24, 2020. This will allow for the creation of class lists and cohorts prior to classes beginning.

Cameron Shade
