A grass fire that broke out on the Blood Reserve earlier today is contained, according to Blood Tribe Fire Chief, Jacen Abrey.
He stated the fire “ran approximately 28 kilometres west to east and six kilometres south to north.” Reports indicate that approximately 15 homes were evacuated due to the grass fire. Evacuees can access temporary shelter at the Multi-Purpose Building in Standoff or call Red Cross at 1-888-800-6493.

Abrey also reported the Blood Tribe received “mutual aid from the Raymond, Coaldale and Magrath Fire Departments; Public Works; several Hutterite colonies and local farmers.” Crews will be on the scene to monitor hot spots for the next 18 to 24 hours. Details on the origin of the fire will undergo further review.
