Blood Tribe Chief and Council to Cease Illegal Operations and Marketing of Cannabis, Alcohol and Other Illegal Drugs on Blood Reserve – (June 18, 2021)

Blood Tribe Chief and Council issued a Band Council Resolution (BCR – FY 21-22-11552) on June 8, 2021, in response to the operation of illegal sale and marketing of cannabis, alcohol and other illegal drugs on the Blood Reserve.

The sale and marketing of cannabis, alcohol and other illegal drugs on the Blood Reserve is strictly prohibited and the Blood Tribe Chief and Council have enacted their authority with respects to Blood Reserve lands and activities to issue the BCR.

In keeping with their declared war on drugs and alcohol, Blood Tribe Chief and Council felt measures were needed to be put in place in order to protect the overall health and safety of the community and Tribal members.

This BCR will work in conjunction with the existing Trespassing By-Law, which was introduced in 2015 in response to the Opioid Crisis that is still being enforced, in order to keep non-members from trafficking drugs and alcohol on the Blood Reserve.

Blood Tribe Chief and Council have engaged in serious discussion and debate on this issue and are open to engagement with community and consultation. Chief and Council are will to hear and receive additional information regarding the prohibition or regulation of the selling and marketing of cannabis on Blood Reserve lands.

RESOLVE: All outlets engaged in the illegal selling of cannabis and other drugs, including alcohol, on Blood Reserve lands are ordered immediately to discontinue their operations;

Blood Tribe Police Service has been notified of Council’s decision and will immediately take all necessary and lawful action in regard to the illegal sales of drugs and alcohol on Blood Reserve lands.
