Blood Reserve School Bus Co-Op Update – (October 5, 2021)

To All Bus Drivers, Safety Ride Along Assistants, Parents, Guardians, Students and School Officials:

Blood Reserve School Bus Co-op would like to notify all Tribal members, starting on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, there will be no bus service to any off-reserve school districts.

(Lethbridge Catholic and Public schools, Fort Macleod schools and Westwind – Cardston schools, including Magrath, Glenwood and Hill Spring schools.)

Please be advised that all off-reserve school buses are scheduled to resume operations on Thursday, October 21, ONLY if the Blood Reserve COVID-19 numbers have declined from the 139 active cases that the Blood Tribe Department of Health reported on October 4, 2021.

Ever since the start of this school year so far, ten buses have been affected and have had to shut down for 5 — 10 days at a time. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, which is why we have decided to stop operating buses. Students who have to take the bus sometimes have to sit in a confined space for up to 2 hours one way, which is a situation we feel is not safe at this time for our students.

Please be advised; the Blood Tribe DEM is in support of this decision. If you have any questions, please call the bus supervisor of the school division your student attends. Schools will remain open.
