2023 Alberta General Election – Information for the Blood Reserve Polling Stations

May 29, 2023

The 2023 Alberta general election is being held on May 29, 2023, where voters will elect members to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The provincial riding for the Blood Reserve is Cardston-Siksika. The Blood Reserve (No. 148) is broken down into three voting zones (039, 045, 048) where zones 039 and 045, located north of secondary highway 505, can vote in Standoff, Ab at the Multi-Purpose building. Zone 048, which is located south of secondary highway 505 can vote at the Moses Lake Community Gymnasium near Cardston, Alberta. Rural residents of the Blood Reserve can be assisted on-site at the Multi-Purpose Building with your legal land description. Voters must bring their identification with them to vote.

Here is some additional information:

The Multi-Purpose Building and the Moses Lake Community gymnasium are open until 8:00 PM.

If you are in line by 8:00 PM, you can vote. Right at 8:00 PM, we cannot allow anyone else to line up however if you are in line, you can vote.

If registered to vote:

All you need is identification(ID) with your name on it. And if you can verbally say your physical address to the voting officer then you’re good to vote because you’re registered and in the voting record.

If not registered to vote:

If you are not registered to vote, two pieces of ID are required: a government issued identification with your name and a physical address.

If no ID with physical address, then can have someone vouch for you BUT HAVE TO BE LIVING IN SAME VOTING AREA. Blood reserve has 3 voting areas (039, 045, 048).

Band membership cards can be included as form of ID.

Members can use the Blood Tribe Administration building as an address if a physical address is not possible – because of how some physical addresses are on blood reserve, it could be a house number and just say ‘Blood Reserve’ or not have specific address at all. So, in that case, you can use Blood Tribe Administration building as your physical address.

You can get an attestation form filled out at the administration building, shelter facility or community support centre, colony, student in residence can get form signed by registrar office or student association execs or student residence coordinator, or if you’re a tenant can get it signed by titled landowner, lessor, on site caretaker, 3rd party management admin.

Can also fill out Declaration of Residence for Electors Living on Reserve

– this is an option for electors on reserve who do not have any ID showing current physical address but do have government issues photo ID.

– filled out at the voting place (Multi-Purpose Building/Moses Lake Community Gymnasium)

It is stressed that we work with the voter to try get ANY forms of ID. We are discouraged from turning away voters until we’ve exhausted all options.

A picture on your phone of ID works.

Costco card and something that has name and address also works.

Literally anything from a Costco card, online bill statement, to Status cards are acceptable.
