Road and backcountry closures due to heavy rainfall and debris

What’s happening
On the evening of June 11, a significant rain event (50+ mm) occurred over a portion of Waterton Lakes National Park. This rain caused debris flows in several areas and roads are affected. Parks Canada is discouraging recreational travel to Waterton Lakes National Park at this time to allow response operations to take place. There is no imminent danger to the townsite.
An area closure is in place for:
All backcountry areas and hiking trails. On and off-trail activities (trail use, climbing, scrambling etc.) are not permitted at this time.
Red Rock Parkway
Akamina Parkway
All backcountry campgrounds

It is important to stay informed. Check the Parks Canada website and Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on conditions in Waterton Lakes.
Parks Canada is currently assessing all areas of the park. More information will be provided as it becomes available. An additional update is expected around 13:30.
