Blood Tribe Communications and Community Engagement

“If more non- Native people would hire Native folks to perform their content and not just as stereotypical Native characters in somebody’s western, then we wouldn’t be in this pickle…”

 Community Engagement

On Tuesday May 14, 2023 I attended the Blood Tribe Department of Health Diabetes Run/ Walk for the first time for my father Norman ManyFingers who suffers from the disease. This is an annual event that has grown over the years and increasing its numbers and awareness every year. I was able to schedule for a health screening. This year I met Paul Young Pine who was also a first year participant. Paul works for City of Calgary Glenmore Water Treatment Plant. Prior to this he’s worked on many film projects in Alberta as a Horse handler and stuntman, and we had a brief general discussion about this. Following Nitsitapi values he now supports sustainable water treatment and management within Calgary city limits. Paul will most likely attend the Kainai Indian Days 2024 as a Traditional Dancer.
