Taatsiikiipoyii Charles Weasel Head on his appointment to the Order of Canada.

Published by Blood Tribe Department of Health on July 2, 2024

On behalf of the Blood Tribe Department of Health, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Taatsiikiipoyii Charles Weasel Head on his appointment to the Order of Canada.

Since the early 1980s, Charles has dedicated himself to advancing numerous health initiatives to improve healthcare outcomes for Blood Tribe members. His significant roles include serving as Director of the treatment centres Napi Lodge and Poundmaker’s Lodge, Director of the Blood Indian Hospital in the early 90s, and Chief Executive Officer for the Blood Tribe Department of Health Inc. He held the CEO position until his successful election as Chief of the Blood Tribe, leading from 2004-2016. Currently, Charles serves as Vice Chairperson for the Blood Tribe Department of Health Board of Directors, continuing his dedicated service to our community.

Charles has brought Canadians together across sectors and has helped advance reconciliation. As CEO of the Blood Tribe Department of Health, he formed a long-standing partnership with the Canadian Red Cross and, as Chief of the Blood Tribe and Treaty 7 Grand Chief, he launched new social, health, and education initiatives. The first Indigenous Chancellor of the University of Lethbridge, he has also been a leader with the Aboriginal Healing Foundation. Join us in congratulating Charles on his recent achievement!
