COVID-19 Department Notice

Blood Tribe Membership Department would like to notify all Tribal members trying to apply for an Indian Status Card that the Membership office cannot assist in the processing of Indian status card applications until further notice due to COVID-19 restrictions.

If you want to register a child or if you have other membership issues, the Blood Tribe Membership office can be contacted:

The Blood Tribe Membership Department is open to process band membership cards (BAND MEMBERS ONLY) every Tuesday and Thursday.

• 9:30 a.m. TO 12:00 p.m. - (10 People Limit)
• 1:00 p.m. TO 4:00 p.m. - (12 People Limit)


Membership Card Costs

• 2ND CARD – $15.00
• 3RD CARD – $25.00
• 4TH CARD – $35.00

Please have fee when applying for card. 

Cards are not printed unless fee is paid. 

If you don’t know the amount you need to pay, call (403) 737-8111 to determine the cost.

Membership Application Packages

Note: Membership Application Packages can be picked up at the main receptionist desk inside the Blood Tribe Administration Building or mailed to the individual.

• Completed application packages can be either submitted at the BTA Building or mailed in for review.

• If application packages are brought in, a Membership staff worker can meet them at the main receptionist desk and review the application with the applicant. If everything is ok with the application, Membership can take the documents from the applicant for processing.

• If application packages are mailed, a Membership staff worker can review them, and if anything is missing, they can call them back.

COVID-19 Department Notice

Due to the rising cases of COVID-19 and the threat of the Delta Variant, Blood Tribe Membership is encouraging any Tribal member trying to acquire an Indian Status Card to complete the online registration process through the Indigenous Services Canada website. This is because the Membership department is trying to limit the number of in-person contacts to keep everyone safe.

Indigenous Services Canada Update

Due to the risks associated with the COVID-19 world pandemic, Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) is taking strong precautions to ensure the health and safety of all employees and clients. Therefore, the office is currently closed, and we are not accepting clients for in-person services and are operating at a reduced capacity.

Please be advised, due to the current circumstances, the processing for the Secure Certificate of Indian Status may be delayed. This includes the return of any original documents sent with the application. 

Please remember, the Blood Tribe Membership Department cannot track any Indian Status Card applications that are mailed to ISC. They are not responsible for processing the application, so any follow-up or questions will need to be directed to ISC, not Blood Tribe Membership. 

Important Notes

Please note that during the COVID-19 pandemic, ISC has extended the validity date of Indian Status Cards until further notice. 

  • Service providers should accept Indian Status Cards or Temporary Confirmation or Registration Documents (TCRDs), with identification, even if the renewal or expiry date has passed.
  • Indian Status does not expire. Your registration number confirms your status and can be used to access some services and programs.

Alberta Indian Tax Exemption Card

BT Membership Card Cannot Be Used For Tax Exemption

The BT Membership card is a card that is ONLY issued to Blood Tribe Members.

This card is different from the Indian Status Card that Indigenous Services Canada issues (Indian Affairs), even though the information on the card is similar.

Since the band membership card is not a government-issued card, it cannot be used in place of the Indian Status Card.
