RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Protecting and preserving treaty and aboriginal rights: natural resources including water, minerals, oil, gas, timber, and air space.
- Pursuing the settlement of outstanding land claims and specific claims.
- Ensuring the Blood Tribe’s interests are represented in negotiations.
- To provide advice with respect to broad policy on future relations with federal and provincial governments.
- To provide advice respecting broad policy on relations with other First Nations, national, provincial, and regional organizations.
- To assist with internal constitutional development, legislation, and governance structure.
- To assist the Blood Tribe legislative process.
- To assist the Blood Tribe public policy process.
- To assist with the development of the Kainai Justice model including Peacemaking.
- To ensure that Blood Tribe initiatives fall in line with the political position and the preservation of aboriginal, treaty, land and resources rights.
- To ensure that a community comprehensive development process is based on the tribal principles as set out in Kainaysinni.
- To ensure that all Blood Tribe developments and initiatives do not conflict with the Tribe’s political positions, and do not have an adverse impact on claims in process, on treaty and aboriginal rights and Blood Tribe jurisdictions.
- To assist in the establishment and maintenance of external contacts including intergovernmental liaison and consultation
- To seek advice from the elders with respect to developmental initiatives, the protection and preservation of land, treaty and aboriginal rights and Blood Tribe Jurisdictions.
